Better have that foot good and healed before the race. Besides, as the weather cools, we'll have plenty of times for rides.

Got a pair of Merino wool lined, waterproof fire hose canvas pants inbound....I'll be riding all winter, in temps above 25F at least.

Sweet!  Check out Turner's Corner up around Hwy 129. It's the new hangout since Dale got forced outta his store, across the street from TWO.
If you give a shout out, on the ADV in the DOGs thread, someone might be able to show you the FS roads up there too.
Have fun

PICS!

Also posted on advrider ( more as a bump for the group thread..but...)

Got this idea from a post on another site: Swapped out the stock tool tube on my bike tube for one that holds a ton more stuff ( tire irons, pump, etc..). It was sold as a tube to hold welding rods, but with some angle irons and silicone sealer (for the bolts) it should now be water proof.  Total cost ... $10

Rod holders are definitely water proof, and make excellet tool holders. Job well done!

Thanks.. yeah I cant beleive that I pulled it off. I guess going to Home Depot on 2 hrs sleep wasn't such a bad idea after all

Got a question for you Kliff, my fater in law gave me a line on a 1979 Harley Low-rider. Tells me that his buddy has it sitting in his garage in NY and would let it go for about 4-5 G's.  What do I need to look for on a bike like this? Would it even be worth getting? I dont really want\need another bike, but if the bike is sweet enough I might be able to talk Canoli wife into letting me check it out.

Thanks

Canoli

'79.....ummmm, AMF years, Shovelhead, cast iron cylinders were the best part of the bike. Most had soft and/or porous aluminum cases, buy stock in thread serts, heli-coils and red loctite. Prepare for a ground up rebuild, then you might have a bike worth 5 grand, if you put a $2-3K paint job on it.
The market is glutted with late model H-D's . Last shovel I bout, an '80, pristine condition, I gave $2K, put $3k in it, and was lucky to get $4.5K out.
That was doing ALL my own work too.
Personally, right now, the only H-D I'd buy.....well, there isn't one. Investments...like I said, glutted market. If you want an H-D, of that vintage, and are prepared tp work on it 8 hours for every 2 you ride, break down often, and spend 1-200.00 each time it quits....go for it.

I used to enjy H-D's. Rode 'em, raced 'em, worked on 'em, worked for 'em....but they've lost their charm for me. I'd rather do a little farkling, gas it, and go. You want a cruiser, get a used 650 V-Star....miles an miles of fun.
Customize any way you want...

Better yet, spend about 3500.00 and get a used DR-Z, teach wifey to ride XT....

Yeah...kinda figured. Did some quick reaseach (google) and everyone says the same thing you do. Market glut, tons of $$ to "invest" without any payoff, bad years for Harley etc.. No one had anything positive to say about them.  If I can get it for a steal ( 1k or less) then I'll bite. Other then that I'll pass.  Thanks again for the info.

BTW that first chopper is SWEET lookin.

Hey Swampy....still hoping to get some AARSE's together, and do a DDS event or 2 in '09. The Dragon, Armadillo, Mt Cheeha....something!
