Do I need a new chain?  I've got 11,000 miles on the original chain on my Drz 400.  It stretched to the limits of the adjusters and i had to remove one link and am now halfway thru the adjusters agin.  I have to tighten them after every long ride.  The sprockets look fine but i don't want it to break while I'm at Devils creek.  How much stretch can it take?

If you got 11,000 mile on the original chain and sprocket that is great and a lot of miles.

Here is a link on check chain and sprocket wear. http://www.canyonchasers.net/shop/generic/chain.php  look under the "Replacement section.

Look to see if your sprockets are cupped out where the rollers on the chain fit and if the tips are pointed.

I would suggest that you pull the front sprocket cover and check the counter sprocket for wear also. Check the counter shaft nut to be sure it is tight.

A good rule of thumb is change out as a set, new chain then new sprockets.  This is not always the cause but most times it is true.  If you put a new chain on worn sprockets, this will wera out your chain faster and the same of putting new prockets on with an old chain.

It's time for a new set of sprockets and chain.
Devil's Creek will turn that counter shaft spocket
into a washer with that much wear on it. We're in
the process of changing the 2nd set on a DRZ400
with 18K on it. First chain broke at Devil's Creek
at about 9K. It's not worth the possibilities.
