Dreams Come True Ride 11.14.09

Next Saturday in Jacksonville, there is a ride benefitting Dreams Come True. This organization grants Dreams of chronically ill children.

I know first hand what a wonderful organization that this is. My oldest daughter's Dream was granted by them. It was an awesome experience for the whole family.

Barney's Motorcycle & Marine- St.Pete,Florida Barney's 3rd annual "Scoots for Tots" Scooter Ride will be held Sunday November 22nd. Proceeds to benefit "Ronald McDonald House of Tampa Bay" Go to http://www.barneys.net for more information and click on the St. pete store ALL Scooters welcome 49cc and up!

This always turns out to be a fun ride. We've had scooters with sidecars, classic Vespa's and Lambratta's from the 50's and home made creations. YSR50's and the like are also welcome. We had one scooter club come from West Palm just to ride (well, they did truck 'em in.)

Ride For Children October 11th 2009

The 15th Annual Ride For Children benefiting Camp Boggy Creek(http://www.boggycreek.org/2006/home.asp) will be held this Sunday, October 5th. It leaves out of Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach at 10am. The ride ends at Camp Boggy Creek in Cassia, FL. You can check out the particulars and register on line at http://www.rideforchildren.com/. You can even register on the morning of the ride if you like. This year's event is in memory of camp founder Bruce Rossmeyer who passed away this past July.

Camp Boggy Creek Benefit Ride 2009

One of my favorite charities is the beneficiary of a ride hosted by the Daytona HOG Chapter this Saturday, July 18th. The information posted on Boggy Creek's website(http://www.boggycreek.org/2006/news/specialevents.asp) says that the ride includes 1 lap around Daytona Speedway!

The Daytona HOG Chapter will be hosting its' largest fundraising event, making it Christmas in July for the campers of Camp Boggy Creek. Thanks to all the members of the Daytona HOG owners group and all the riders. The ride begins at Beach Street and finishes at Destination Daytona. The ride includes 1 lap around Daytona International Speedway. Once you arrive at Destination, enjoy the live entertainment, 50/50 drawing, auctions and door prizes. Thanks so much to everyone. I personally will not be able to attend due to a planned trip out of state. I thought that others might be interested in the "LAP" opportunity. It costs $15/person to ride in this fundraiser.

Ride For Stephanie Ride Report!

Let's recap to start the story and bring viewers who didn't attend up to speed........

Stephanie is 12 years old. She is a fraternal twin. Brandy was born a normal healthy child, Stephanie was not. She was born with Spina Bifida.

Stephanie was not to live to see her first birthday let alone her 12th.

Over the years she has had numerous surgeries ( 10 to 15 at least ) such as: when she was born, all her spinal fluid was in a huge hump, 2 bladders were outside her body, no that was not a typo. Catheters had to be inserted into her kidneys to keep them functioning. Over the years as she got bigger, she needed to have the bladders put into her body a little at a time. Stephanie was totally recreated. She was born without a bottom, she has a colostomy, intestines were used to make ureters. Besides 2 bladders she also has 2 uterus's and 4 ovaries, and an extra row of teeth. These will be removed one day. She will also have to have a rod placed in her back to make it straight. She can eat like you and i, but also has a feeding tube.

She requires a hand pedaled bike due to the fact that she can not walk.

There are 5 kids in this household. 2 in their late teens and 3 younger kids, Stephanie being one of them. It has now been 3 years since she has been in the hospital. The surgery used on her back when she was first born was experimental and she is the only child to have survived it. There was a video taken during the procedure and it is now used for teaching at All Children's Hospital.

Today she gets around by wheelchair or crawls on the floor. Smart as a whip, never misses a beat and still has a bit of a rough road ahead of her. This year she has made honor roll. The family would love to get her a bike but unfortunately it is not in the budget and that is why I have discussed this with Laura to see what resources are out there for Stephanie. It is time for her to start riding bikes with her siblings.

So DDS stepped up to the plate and organized a fun day of street and adventure riding to help a girl get a bike.

Some couldn't make it and donated ahead of time. But one thing is certain: the folks of DDS have the biggest hearts of anyone!

Cruzin Al's street ride, the Coast-2-Coast, back again for 2008 and benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation was once again a rousing success!

Al's been hitting all the boards for months trying to get participation for this ride, and with over 200 riders, it's amazing that only 5 dual sporters showed up, and all were from DDS! Whoo Hoo...

Let's take a look shall we?

Here we are at sign up at the Holiday Inn Express in Brandon, FL. Most folks pre-registered. Others could join in the festivities as well by waiting their turn to register!

Sponsored by the Honda Sport Touring Association, many different bikes and brands came out for the day! As you can see, the majority...well...all but what you'll see coming up...were, well....uh...these kinda bikes... Harley's, Goldwings, etc. A smattering of BMW's, a handful of V-Stroms....

Dec. 9th Charity ride

Should I stopnah, just gut it out. Thats the question I ask myself every time I ride and the temperature drops below 50 degrees. Should I stop and put the collar on my jacket to keep my neck from freezing. A smart man would just say ,when in dought...install the collar. Not me I ride on. Besides its only a 40 minute ride to the start for me. Hypothermia cant set in in 40 minutes right?

I arrived at our starting point Pasco Hernando Community College around 7:30 . A few rode in, more trailered in and all were waiting. Hey theres Mike Driver...but wheres the Swampmister?

More riders and trailers arrive and by 8:10, Swampy pulled in and immediately his followers flocked to his feet.

With sign in complete, it was off to the bikes with roll charts in hand.
